While on the Timberline Trail, we hiked through areas of the forest that were dense with huge evergreens. We hiked through a forest of skeleton trees that were the aftermath of the Dollar Lake fire in 2011. We hiked right passed the tree line as the trees became smaller, more sparse, and awkward shaped until we reached an elevation where no trees could grow at all. It was powerful to be immersed in their environment for those 43 miles of hiking.
A conversation while we had while setting up camp and watching the sun set over the forest:
"Do you think things like trees have souls?"
"I think things like trees have the most soul."
This is what inspired these tree shaped studs.
